I've added a new notification option to your user profiles: you can elect to receive an email whenever any new Thought is posted. I hope some day the site will be busy enough that that would amount to a bothersome flow of emails, but until then, you might want to turn that option on so you know when there's something new to hear.
We're already about a month old! Here's to productive months to come. I suppose I should start moving old news updates to an archive soon, too...
A minor feature update: when going through random Thoughts, you will no longer see your own Thoughts or Thoughts you've already guessed. If you do want to include these Thoughts in the random pool as well, you can change that setting in your profile options.
Also, I've added an anti-spam question to the registration form and disabled what I'm pretty sure where spam accounts. If yozxzekxitptytlqnb is actually a name in some exotic language, a thousand pardons to you; let me know and I'll re-enable your account right away.
I've added a StumbleUpon submit button to the sidebar. If you use StumbleUpon and you want to help MeaningInMusic grow, you know what to do.
As mentioned in the previous update, you can now receive a notification when somebody comments on one of your Thoughts, either by a message through the site or by email. The site now has private messaging as well, with optional email notification. By default, you will receive messages here when somebody comments on your Thoughts or answers your requests, and you'll get an email notification if somebody sends you a private message. You can edit these settings in your profile options.
Let me know if anything seems amiss with the message system or if there's anything you think could be done to improve its functionality. As always, thank you for your participation and enjoy the site.
Inspired by a suggestion from fuzzycuzzy, the site now has a request feature. Request Thoughts you'd like to hear, and you will be notified if somebody answers your request. Soon you will also be able to send users private messages and receive notifications when somebody comments on your Thoughts. Let me know how the request system works out and if you have any tips for improving it.
A warm welcome to all the users who have already joined. It's very exciting to see this project get off to a great start. I've fixed some minor bugs, and added a Facebook Like button to see if it helps get the word out. It is also now possible to comment on these posts on the main page, which you can do even if you're not a registered member (which is probably inadvisable, but I don't think the site is big enough to attract spambots yet). If you are a member, comments will automatically be attributed to you if you're logged in.
If anybody has some ideas, I'd like suggestions on how to improve the flow of the site, particularly with regard to connecting Thoughts. Ideally, when lots of people are making guesses, those will serve as a good way to connect related Thoughts and show how people are reacting to a piece, though I suppose it's too soon to tell how well it will work in that capacity. Should users perhaps be able to 'guess' even when they know the composer's intent, or on the other hand, should titles not be displayed by default? Any feedback on other desired features, etc. is welcome as well.
Welcome to MeaningInMusic! Though there is very little on the site now, with your help it can grow into a vibrant community with a vast library of musical thoughts. Musicians of all styles and levels are welcome to contribute, and all are welcome to participate in the discussion. Please read the about page to see what this is all about, and enjoy MeaningInMusic.
